Full Review of the Oceanic VT4

Oceanic continues its tradition of designing and manufacturing only the best diving computers and submersion equipment with the addition of yet another novel, state-of-the-art diving system, the Oceanic VT4 dive Computer. An evolutionary upgrade of its predecessors, the VT3 and VT Pro models, the Oceanic VT4 provides unmatched benefits to guarantee the best diving experience.

Quality of Construction

The Oceanic VT4 has a solid build and can withstand the most rugged of conditions. Its body is made of hardened polycarbonate and plastic alloys to ensure that it is tough as well as relatively light. The large wrist strap at the back will fit around a wetsuit or dry suit cuff with no problem. The screen protector on the front will help to protect the face as well as to ensure the longevity of the dive computer. With such attention to detail and such a high build quality, the diver can rest assured that this diving computer will be a loyal companion for years.

Noticeable Remarkable Improvements in User-interface

The best feature of the user interface is the grayscale dot-matrix display which compliments the large display screen by providing a crisper, clearer visual experience. Text and icons are easily legible as a result and diving information and details make more efficient use of the larger screen size. With significant enhancements in the graphical user-friendly interface, Oceanic has taken a paradigm shift in terms of intuitive usability. For instance, menu-based items are displayed in a scrollable list allowing quicker steps forward or backward. This gives the user quicker access to the desired functions and settings.

The interface has been taken a step further with new menu based architecture and better grouping of preferences and user-adjusted settings. A “shortcuts” menu has also been added with which the user can pre-define a custom subset of the most commonly regulated settings.

Wireless Tank Data

Oceanic VT4 is wireless compatible so you can buy an optional wireless transmitter for you cylinder which in turn will display useful information such as the cylinder pressure and remaining dive time. If your dive buddy has the same wireless transmitter, you will both be able to keep track of each other’s air content.

Other Noticeable Features

It goes without saying that the Oceanic VT4 comes with audible alarms as well as a small flashing light to catch your attention about important information. The built-in compass is extremely handy and is something that I have come to expect from Oceanic.

In addition to this, the Oceanic VT4 comes with a system upgrade menu in which you can keep a note of your firmware as well as all necessary firmware upgrades. This is certainly an added bonus of Oceanic dive computers as their firmware is regularly updated thus allowing you to keep abreast of all changes and developments.

Last but certainly not least, the Oceanic VT4 comes with a user-replaceable battery which is great as it helps to cut down on maintenance costs.

The Verdict on the Oceanic VT4 Dive Computer?

All in all, the Oceanic VT4 is a feature-rich dive computer that is ideal for all types of divers and at all levels. It is well-made and exceptionally durable with simple functionality that is easy to navigate. This dive-computer easily features on my top-ten list.

  2. Michael says:

I bought a VT4 Drive Computer to replace my Oceanic VT3 computer. The Oceanic VT 4 offers Dual Algorithm which provides you with the ability to choose the best algorithm for your diving needs. However the Oceanic VT3 computer is a lot easier to use and more efficient. I would not recommend purchasing a VT4!

  3. Andrew says:

This is an outstanding dive computer for any serious diver. I dive almost every week and have not had a problem with it yet. Overall the Oceanic VT4 offers any feature that you could ever imagine. It is perfect for all types of divers. It is durable and easy to use. It is the best dive computer that I have ever owned and I have been diving for over ten years.

  4. Mark says:

I really love the new interface of the Oceanic VT4 Dive Computer. You get a shortcut menu which saves you time and makes it easier to use. Plus it comes with an integrated digital compass. Its four dive modes really come in handy which are Air, Nitrox, and Gauge, FREEdiving. You also get wireless air integration which supports up to 4 transmitters.
I really like its dive planner that has a range of 9 to 57 meters. Its operational depth is 100 meter for Air and Nitrox diving. You can’t ask for more from a dive computer.
